While fish can serve as the key dietary way to obtain the long-chain omega-3s eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, which has been shown to be essential in supporting brain health, low intake of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid in vegetarians does not adversely affect mood, as reported by a new study (Nutr J. 2010;9:26. DOI:10.1186/1475-2891-9-26).

A research team from Arizona State University conducted a cross-sectional study to check the mood of vegetarians who never eat fish with the mood of healthy omnivorous adults.

A total of 138 healthy Seventh Day Adventist adults residing in Arizona and California (64 vegetarians and 79 non-vegetarians) were enrolled in the study and completed a health history questionnaire, food frequency questionnaire and 2 psychometric tests, the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale and also the Profile of Mood States..

Vegetarians had significantly lower mean intakes of eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and the omega-6 arachidonic acid; they had higher intakes of the omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid and the omega-6 linoleic acid.

"Seed oils are the richest sources of α-linolenic acid, notably those of rapeseed (canola), soybeans, walnuts, flaxseed (Linseed oil), clary sage seeds, perilla, chia, and hemp."

However, the vegetarians also reported even less negative emotion than omnivores in psychometric tests. Mean total psychometric scores were positively linked to the mean intakes of eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid , and inversely related to alpha-linolenic acid and linolenic acid intake.

The research team noted there is also the possibility that vegetarians may make smarter dietary choices and could generally be healthier and happier.

Italian Spaghetti with Zucchini

Ingredients:
* 17 oz. Spaghetti
* 24 oz. Of thin sliced zucchini
* A half cup of walnuts oil
* Some basil leaves
* 2 tablespoons of yeast flakes
* Salt and pepper

In a large skillet heat the oil and when hot, add garlic and zucchini. Raise heat and stir often to complete their cooking. They should be golden and crispy outside and tender inside. Cook the pasta, drain and sauté in pan with zucchini, basil and yeast. Serve immediately.

Zucchini contain fewer calories and have no fat. But they are a good source of potassium, vitamin e, vitamin c, folate, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Many of these nutrients are extremely sensitive to heat and to enjoy their full benefits you need to look for a quick solution to cook or even eat raw in salads.

From the therapeutic perspective, zucchini have laxative, refreshing, anti-inflammatory, diuretic and detoxifying action.

Eco-conscious is a term that I've been hearing a lot lately. Specifically, people have been taking a more action-oriented approach at making this a better planet. But it's not just the efforts of large corporations and collaborative units (i.e. – Doug Band and the CGI) on issues like renewable energy, sustainable crops, and fuel emission reduction; it's actually the act of the individual that's providing for a greener future.

For instance, there's been great development work on eco-gadgets, or items that allow us to do everyday tasks, while remaining safe for the environment and the user. This would include the lessened usage of batteries; one such example is a usb wireless optical mouse that feeds off a battery-less receiver. Another fine example would include green rags, which have become a hit over the past couple of years. Biodegradable and highly efficient, these can be used to clean windows, wash cars, dry hands, etc…

Although, gadgets aren't the only thing that have provided noteworthy support for the green individual; acts such as travel, trash dispensing, and cell phone usage have turned eco-friendly. Subsequently, heavy ideals like marriage have yielded to the go green message. In a piece labeled "Green Marriage Ceremonies," Larie Pawlik-Kienlen describes ways in which to effectively make your marriage eco-friendly. She goes on to tell her audience to use biodegradable paper for invitations; recycle dresses; donate your wedding gown to a good cause; rent a hybrid vehicle for transport; set up an organic gift registry, and so on and so forth. Off the top of my head I can generally think of one major thing that would support such an initiative and that would be to hold the ceremony outdoors! Ultimately, I feel as if this makes for a splendid organic wedding!

Eco-conscious is become more widely used as green and everything surrounding it becomes more action oriented. Large civil construction companies and business already understand the important of green lighting and LEED standards, but it's up to the individual to make a significant change in the way we live and view our planet. Hass Libre has been invited to the 10th anniversary of the Latin Grammy's to be held at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on November 2nd - 5th. We will be providing gift bags and hosting the green room backstage.

Environment Friendly, Organic Produts Are Among Us Everywhere

Being a part-time hippie is one of my favorite pass times. I get to discuss the significance climate change, stress the importance of renewable energy, and wear some killer hemp clothing. But little did I know about the sheer number of organic products available until I visited the eco-retailer Nelliefay. After browsing their selection of products, I decided it was finally time to put my money where my mouth is... or at least my dogs anyway.

What does that mean exactly? I ordered an organic bone for my dog Stewart. That's right. These things actually exist as you can see from the adorable photo below.

So far, my pet Stewart has enjoyed his bone thoroughly. But fortunately he's never buried this one. Unlike real bones this 8 inch cotton bone comes with a built in squeaker and since its made from cotton it's very gentle on his teeth.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and so is Stewart. If you're into preserving our ecosystem and are also a dog owner, I'd suggest dropping the 13 bones it costs to order.

Hey everybody! I hope all is well with you and yours :) Hass libre is currently in Las Vegas doing promotions, not to mention enjoying ourselves! I just wanted to post this as a quick reminder that we all make a difference. Wether it's turning off the faucet when brushing your teeth, recycling, or using environmentally safe products it truly matters. Pay attention to the packaging you recieve for food items, electronics, etc. and you will see it is almost all recyclable material. These are the types of packaging we routinely throw away. I've been guilty of this myself most of my life. Now that i am aware however, i recycle almost anything i can get my hands on. With just a little effort you can make a huge difference. So please take the initiative to do something positive, no matter how insignifigant it may seem. Thank you for your time. Have a great day!

Why Should You Go Green and Save the Environment?

By going green and using eco friendly products we can help save the environment and ensure that planet earth will be a thriving planet in the near future. Not going green can have devastating effects on the environment and the planet as a whole. We all must do our part to reduce waste products and create innovative ways to do this.

Reducing waste byproduct, but polluting the air is not a viable solution. There must be a balance between waste and pollution. Just because we are reducing the waste products, does not mean we are eliminating the pollution emissions discharged.

When going green it is wise to do research to see what works and what does not work. Also, you may want to check with fellow environmentalists to see what their plan for action is for the future. look to see how much waste you can eliminate by doing little changes.

Water wastage is a big problem in developed countries. Less developed countries do not have access to fresh water like we do in the USA, Europe, and Asia. There are multitudes of ways to reduce water waste. Lowering the pressure when showering can save water. Also, cutting your showering time in half can play a significant role in saving water for other, more useful things. Brushing your teeth can also be wasteful of water. Shutting off the water while brushing your teeth can save 3 gallons of fresh, drinkable water. Many people in the world do not have access to clean water, yet alone 3 gallons of fresh water. If we can all reduce our water waste we can have a significant and positive impact on the environment.

Using energy efficient products or driving hybrid automobiles is a great way to reduce those nasty emissions that clog up our air. Why do we want to add so much pollution to the environment, when we can make simple lifestyle changes to reverse or slow down the impact we are having on the environment.

In essence, we all need to do our part to make small, but in the long run significant changes to our daily habits. This can ensure a thriving environment for our children and our children’s children and so on. If not we run the risk of losing this precious planet we call home!

Save your Electricity by Using Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

Light bulbs emit large amounts of energy per usage. This is to say that the average light bulb uses 5 – 10 times more electricity that its original cost. This can run up a family’s electric bill and usually does. There are ways to reduce the amount of light emitted from the bulbs and even cut back on using the lights.

We can turn the lights off when were leaving a room. This also means turning off other electronics that may be plugged in such as televisions. Radios, clocks, and even computers! All these drain electricity quickly and are not good for the environment.

An alternative solution to the wasted energy by standard light bulbs is using Compact Fluorescent Lights or Light Emitting Diode (LED Lights). These lights will save energy and last longer than the standard incandescent bulb, revolutionizing energy-efficient light bulbs. Compact fluorescent lights are smaller versions of full sized fluorescent bulbs, yet look like they are emitting the light from an incandescent bulb. LED bulbs are particularly energy-efficient and have opened up new uses in homes and schools everywhere.
